Good morning. Earlier today, district administration was made aware that a student brought one 9mm bullet to school at CES. Local law enforcement and the CES threat assessment team were immediately contacted.
Please know the student did not make any threats, and it was determined no students are in danger. We simply write to inform you of this incident because it is our belief to be honest and transparent with parents about what happens at school.
Our district takes this matter very seriously and disciplinary actions will be taken in accordance with state law and our school code. The safety and security of our students will always be our top priority.
Lastly, we believe this situation is a good opportunity for you to talk to your child or children about bringing inappropriate items to school and the potential disciplinary action that could result from bringing prohibited items to school. When speaking to your child or children, please remind them if they see something, say something. Today’s incident was resolved in a quick and safe manner because students reported the incident to administration.
Important information from the nurse's office:
The Illinois State Board of Education requires students in Kindergarten, 2nd, 6th, and 12th be in compliance with the state health requirements. Parents/Guardians have been notified by the school nurse via phone call and letter mailed home. If your child is noncompliant upon returning from Fall break, he/she will not be eligible to attend school. Please contact the nurse's office with questions.

All students must confirm that their information (address, phone numbers, etc ) is correct in TeacherEase. Cap and Gown fees for seniors is $35 and must be paid by Homecoming week (October 7th). All other fees for the 2024-25 school year have been waived.
FYI! Just a reminder from Nurse Sarah that there are several requirements for specific grade levels concerning immunizations and physicals. All Sport Physicals must be completed before tryouts. These are State mandated and must be in your student's file by October 15th, or they will not be allowed to attend classes. The CHS Cheerleaders will be working the dinner shift at T-Street on Thursday, May 30. T-Street will donate a portion of the sales to go toward summer camp. All you have to do is come in and enjoy a meal. We appreciate your support! 🧡💙

Due to wet conditions and the expectation of more rain, the graduation commencement ceremonies will be held in the CHS Gymnasium on Saturday, May 18. The times have not changed: CES @ 4:30pm, and CHS @ 6:00pm.
All after school activities have been cancelled due to the weather forecast. This cancellation includes all sports and the CES Enrichment program. There is a chance for multiple pop-up storms this afternoon with a more predictable squall line of storms developing during the early evening hours.
We will be maintaining our normal dismissal time and the CES Latchkey program will be running.
IMPORTANT INFO FOR ALL FAMILIES WITH CHILDREN: Summer Grocery Benefit - Deadline to apply is May 15.
Beginning this summer, Illinois will offer Summer EBT, the new grocery program for families with eligible school-age kids. Eligible families will receive $120 per child during the summer for groceries starting in June 2024.
🔶 If you’re already receiving food benefits such as SNAP/FDPIR/TANF/ETC. your school-age children are eligible for the Summer EBT program.
🔶 If your household income meets the requirements for free and reduced-price school meals, your family can receive Summer EBT grocery benefits.
If you think you qualify, please call and ask for an application from your school office. The deadline to apply is May 15.
